The Royal Ballet in Brisbane
Britain’s flagship ballet company is coming to Brisbane! Escape the winter and join Valerie Lawson as The Royal Ballet performs two highly-acclaimed new works, Wayne McGregor’s Woolf Works and Christopher Wheeldon’s The Winter’s Tale, for the first time outside of London’s Covent Garden.
For Woolf Works, his first full-length ballet for the company, McGregor enmeshed themes from three of Virginia Woolf’s landmark novels, Mrs Dalloway, Orlando and The Waves, with a specially commissioned score by Max Richter.
Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s great romance The Winter’s Tale is a masterful modern narrative ballet with designs and costumes by Bob Crowley and music by Joby Talbot.
Between the two performances enjoy a relaxing three-day sojourn to Noosa, the cosmopolitan hub of the Sunshine Coast.
Arrive in Brisbane and check in to your hotel.
Tour arrangements commence at 5.00pm with welcome drinks and Valerie’s pre-performance talk over an early dinner.
Transfer to the Lyric Theatre at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre for the Australian premier season of Wayne McGregor’s full-length ballet, Woolf Works by The Royal Ballet. Securing the 2016 Olivier Award for best new dance production Woolf Works features lighting designs by Lucy Carter and costumes by Moritz Junge.
