Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg

In November 2018, Opera Australia puts on a spectacular production of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Arts Centre in Melbourne to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opera’s premiere.

After its triumphant Ring Cycles in 2013 and 2016, Opera Australia, in collaboration with The Royal Opera Covent Garden, will once again thrill audiences as it stages Wagner’s majestic and ever-popular comedy-drama of the craftsmen-singers of Nuremberg.

Returning from his success in the 2016 Melbourne Ring, heldentenor Stefan Vinke plays the young knight Walther von Stolzing, with James Johnson as Hans Sachs the Cobbler-Mastersinger and David Portillo as David his apprentice.

Renaissance Tours has partnered with Opera Australia and the Richard Wagner Society of Victoria to provide exclusive opera and accommodation packages for this event, including a choice of hotels, a special pre-performance talk with Prof Heath Lees, and a selection of day tours. To further enrich your experience, take the opportunity to attend optional performances by Opera Australia and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
