Itinerary

Arrive in Adelaide in the early afternoon on suggested Qantas flights and make your way to the hotel. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your flights and other travel arrangements including flights, a private transfer to the hotel, a room category upgrade and pre-tour accommodation.

At 18:00, join Brigid and fellow travellers for a welcome briefing at the hotel, followed by a special welcome dinner.

(D)

Today, travel to McLaren Vale, well known for producing Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Visit Paxton Wines, a family owned and operated winery, with an organic and biodynamic philosophy that translates on to their wine production.

Then, continue to Dandelion Vineyards, a winery that has won several Australian and international awards. Enjoy a guided tour of the property and discover how they use the finest traditions of artisan winemaking to produce their wines.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon for an evening at leisure.

(BL)

This morning, transfer to the Adelaide Hills, renowned for its white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling.  Explore Tapanappa Wines, Brian Croser’s family vineyard, where cool-climate wines are produced. Brian Croser has been awarded the Order of the Officer of Australia for pioneering the development of the Adelaide Hills viticultural region.

Continue to the Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard, an award-winning boutique vineyard home to 19,000 vines. The vineyard specialises in producing sparkling wine in the méthode traditionnelle. Lunch is at the onsite restaurant which prides itself on using seasonal and locally grown produce that highlight the region.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon before dinner at a local restaurant.

(BLD)

Check out of the hotel and travel to d’Arenberg Winery in McLaren Vale, producer of some of Australia’s finest Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon and home of the distinctive modernist Cube building. Rich and full-bodied, d’Arenberg’s reds are famous for their power and balance. Enjoy a tour of the Alternate Realities Museum, the on-site contemporary art gallery, followed by lunch with carefully selected wine pairings.

Afterwards, travel onwards to Cape Jervis, at the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula, to board the ferry to Kangaroo Island.

Arrive on Kangaroo Island in the late afternoon and check in to the hotel.

(BL)

This morning, begin your exploration of Kangaroo Island. Visit the Island Beehive to see working honey producers tending one of the world’s only remaining colonies of pure Ligurian honeybees. The Ligurian honeybee subspecies (Apis mellifera ligustica) was native to northern Italy, but progressive hybridisation with the German honeybee (Apis mellifera mellifera) has diluted their stock in Europe. Fortunately, in 1884 a colony of Ligurians was established on Kangaroo Island.

Continue to Kangaroo Island Spirits, an artisanal gin distillery and Australia’s oldest establishment dedicated to the craft. In addition to a range of gins, the distillery also produces delectable liqueurs from Kangaroo Island-grown herbs and fruits.

Travel to Bay of Shoals to tour a coastal vineyard and experience a unique wine tasting followed by lunch with stunning sea views.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon for some time at leisure.

Tonight, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

(BLD)

In the morning, travel to the south coast of the island for a visit to Seal Bay Conservation Park. One of the iconic images of Kangaroo Island is its colony of Australian sea lions (Neophoca cinerea) basking on the beaches, casually indifferent to human observers. This endangered species was nearly hunted to extinction in the 19th century, and the Kangaroo Island colony still represents a significant portion of their entire population.

Enjoy a special farewell lunch with Brigid and fellow travellers at Sunset Food & Wine, a restaurant overlooking American Beach and Eastern Cove. The first Kangaroo Island restaurant to be awarded a Good Food Guide chef’s hat, Sunset Food & Wine benefits from the passion of Michelin-trained chef Jack Ingram.

Afterwards, visit False Cape Wines, located on the banks of the Willson River on the Dudley Peninsula, and enjoy a wine tasting from this organic, sustainable vineyard.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon for an evening at leisure.

(BL)

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to Kingscote Kangaroo Island Airport for a morning flight to Adelaide (included in tour price).

Tour arrangements conclude upon arrival at Adelaide Airport. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your onward flights and other travel arrangements, including any additional nights’ accommodation, either before or after the tour, and travel insurance (strongly recommended).
