Melbourne Opera Nights
Celebrate autumn in Melbourne with three major productions by Opera Australia, including Wagner’s Lohengrin, Boito’s unique interpretation of the Faustian Mefistofele, and Verdi’s glorious La Traviata.
Marvel at Olivier Py’s monumental production of Wagner’s fantastical Lohengrin, set amongst the ruins of German Romanticism in post-war Berlin. Enjoy a rare opportunity to hear Boito’s only complete opera, Mefistofele, with a concert performance starring acclaimed bass Ferruccio Furlanetto, Leah Crocetto, Diego Torre and the Opera Australia Chorus. At Verdi’s La Traviata, delight in the warm and expressive vocals of Stacey Alleaume, a home-grown soprano rapidly gaining an international reputation.
The experience is rounded out by a day in the Yarra Valley, visiting Dame Nellie Melba’s gracious Coombe estate, and with a visit to the NGV International’s Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition, Pierre Bonnard, from the Musée d’Orsay, Paris.
