ASQ Weekend of Music

Enjoy a weekend of chamber music at its very finest, performed in the picturesque vineyards of Western Australia’s Margaret River. Travel in the company of art and music aficionado Alan Dodge for one of the annual highlights of the Australian chamber music calendar, attending  a series of concerts by the world-class Australian String Quartet in the exquisite surroundings of some of Australia’s most renowned wine estates.

After each concert, sit down to a superb gourmet dining experience paired with specially selected wines, and meet the artists themselves in an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. On the final day, take a day trip south along the rugged coastline to further explore this unique part of Western Australia.

Note: this tour is designed to connect with Private Art Collections of Western Australia with Alan Dodge from the 26–30 October 2020.

Meet Alan and fellow travellers at The Westin Perth located at 480 Hay Street, Perth at 10:00.

Depart for Margaret River stopping en route at the picturesque seaside town of Busselton. Enjoy a break for lunch at leisure and time to walk along the well-known Busselton Jetty, the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Then, continue to the hotel in the coastal town of Yallingup.

This evening, attend the opening concert of the Australian String Quartet Weekend of Music at Vasse Felix, followed by dinner at the estate’s renowned restaurant. This evening the ASQ are joined by acclaimed mezzo-soprano Fiona Campbell and internationally-renowned recorder player Genevieve Lacey.

Today, travel to Cape Mentelle winery for a morning concert in the original barrel cellar of the winery, followed by a picnic lunch in the vineyards.

Return to the hotel for time at leisure.

This evening begins with an intimate concert at Voyager Estate followed by a gala dinner with members of the Australian String Quartet and guest artists.

This morning, enjoy a high tea brunch at the Leeuwin Estate Art Gallery. The Leeuwin Estate is one of the founding wineries of the region and the estate’s art gallery holds a collection of artworks by artists such as Imants Tillers, Sir Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd and John Olsen. Then attend the final concert of the weekend at midday before enjoying farewell drinks at Art Gallery Alfresco on the estate.

Afterwards drive through the magnificent Karri trees of the Boranup Forest Reserve to the historic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, situated at the most south-westerly tip of Australia at the point where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet. Constructed from local limestone in 1896, the lighthouse is the tallest on mainland Australia and is still in use today.

Return to Yallingup and enjoy dinner with Alan and fellow travellers.

Depart from Yallingup at 09:00 for Perth.

The drive is approximately 4.5 hours including a brief stop for lunch in Bunbury. Arrive at Perth airport by 14:00 in time for flights departing from 16:00, or continue to the Perth CBD.
