Archaeological treasures of the Chau Chak Wing Museum
Enjoy a private, in-depth day-in-focus of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest assortment of antiquities from the Middle East, Greece and Cyprus in Sydney’s newest full-scale museum.
On this full-day tour, join archaeologist Iain Shearer to uncover the treasures of the extensive Nicholson Collection of ancient artefacts recently rehoused in this new purpose-built museum.
Begin with a lecture that focuses on the contribution of women to archaeology whose work connected Sydney with the ancient world. Hear the adventurous tales of Kathleen Kenyon at Jericho, Freya Stark in Iran and Cecily Guido at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk, England.
Then enjoy two privately-guided tours by Iain and the Nicholson Collection’s senior curator to explore artefacts representing many of the great cities and civilisations that flourished along the Levantine coast, across Mesopotamia, Greece and modern-day Cyprus.
This tour is part of the World Art Tours program organised by the Art Gallery Society of NSW in partnership with Renaissance Tours.
