Tuesday 23 March 2021 / Arrive Melbourne – Healesville

Arrive in Melbourne on suggested Qantas flights and make your way to The Langham Melbourne hotel by 11:00am for a welcome briefing with your tour leader, Nicci Crossing. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your flights and other travel arrangements, including a private transfer to the hotel or pre-tour accommodation.

Then, travel north-east from Melbourne towards the Yarra Valley, nestled below the mountaintops of the Yarra Ranges, for a wine tasting at award-winning family estate De Bortoli Wines, accompanied by a selection of paired cheeses.

Continue to the hotel and check-in with time at leisure before a special welcome dinner at a local restaurant where the head chef is inspired by the region’s locally sourced and seasonally inspired produce with European-style dishes that also note reference to Asian influence.

Wed 24 Mar / Healesville

Today, join a member of the kitchen team at Oakridge Estate to discover the produce growing in the edible garden and visit the flour-milling, cheese and charcuterie room before taking a tour of the winery.

Then, enjoy lunch and a wine tasting at Yering Station, where the Scottish-born settlers, planted the estate’s first vines in the 1850s. The modern cellar door sits where the early wine building initially stood and serves an award-winning pinot noir produced by precision viticultural techniques.

Continue to the carefully landscaped Alowyn Gardens, which feature a formally designed parterre garden and a generous edible garden that will be in early autumn change.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. The evening is at leisure to enjoy dinner at the hotel or in one of the many restaurants in the local vicinity.

This morning, embrace the region’s rich horticultural traditions, and where something is blossoming no matter the season, and take a stroll through one of the Yarra Valley’s lush private gardens.

Then, enjoy a special lunch with paired wines at the acclaimed restaurant at Levantine Hill Estate, which showcases a Mediterranean-inspired menu, combining time-honoured traditions of the Jreissati family with a contemporary recognition of local terroir.

In the afternoon, return to the hotel or enjoy time at leisure to explore the tree-lined boulevard of Healesville, featuring an eclectic mix of specialty shops selling gourmet delights from across the region.

Enjoy a light dinner at a local providore that offers the best of the region’s seasonal produce before enjoying farewell drinks at a nearby gastropub.

        Participation in tours

        Most of our tours require a MODERATE level of fitness. However, in certain destinations, or in certain seasons, or because of the nature of travel, certain tours will require an ABOVE MODERATE or CHALLENGING level of fitness. For the overall benefit of the group, at the time of booking we will require you to declare in writing that you are fit to participate in your chosen tour according to the level of fitness required for that tour. If you (or we) have any doubts about your level of fitness, you may be required to undergo a doctor’s appraisal. This would require your doctor to read the itinerary of your chosen tour, including the fitness level, and provide you (and us) with a written confirmation of your ability to participate.
        We reserve the right to refuse admission to the tour for any reason before commencement of the tour. Further, if after the tour has begun it becomes apparent that you are unfit or unsuitable to travel on the tour, we reserve the right to require you to withdraw from the tour at the earliest opportunity to do so. No refund will be provided.
        It is also a requirement that you do not cause any significant disruption to the tour or the tour group, and we may refuse admission on the tour, or require you to withdraw from the tour at any time if your participation causes significant disruption for other guests or the tour group or there is any safety issue as a result of your ongoing participation in the tour.

        Fitness to participate

        Tour members must be able to:

        • negotiate airports and railway stations without wheelchair assistance
        • use combined shower/bath facilities (it is impossible to guarantee walk-in shower facilities)
        • undertake walking tours of 1-2 hours duration, including using stairs, walking over cobblestones and other uneven surfaces
        • stand for long periods in museums and other sites
        • embark / disembark coaches, trains and other methods of transportation without assistance
        • handle your own luggage

        Above Moderate

        In addition to the above, tour members must also be able to:

        • undertake walking tours of 2-3 hours
        • climb staircases of 100 or more steps

        Challenging*

        In addition to the above, tour members must also be able to:

        • handle extremes of temperature (e.g. below 0 or above 35 degrees)
