This morning, attend a pre-performance talk by Phillip about today’s performance, followed by some time at leisure.

In the afternoon, transfer to the Royal Exhibition Building in the picturesque Carlton Gardens and attend a performance of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Melbourne Opera. The performance is conducted by internationally acclaimed Wagner maestro Anthony Negus and directed by Suzanne Chaundy, Australia’s foremost director of the works of Wagner. Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg is set in sixteenth-century Nuremberg, in contrast with the mythical and legendary settings of Wagner’s other major operas. As the only comedy among the composer’s mature operas, this work is full of glorious music and is one of Wagner’s most joyous and life-affirming creations.
