Itinerary

Arrive in Hong Kong on suggested flights and make your way to the hotel. At 20:00, join your tour leader John McDonald and fellow travellers for a welcome drinks reception at the hotel.

Following a morning talk by John, discover the history of Kowloon on a private, guided walk along the harbour, featuring iconic landmarks such as the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, the former Marine Police Headquarters and The Peninsula hotel. Explore the lively alleyways and markets of Kowloon before lunch at a renowned local restaurant.

After some free time, take a ferry across Victoria Harbour to attend the opening night of Art Central. Art Central showcases the next generation of talent from established and emerging galleries across Asia and the world.

This morning, visit the West Kowloon Cultural District, a large, vibrant cultural quarter developed around a growing collection of museums, performance spaces and public art venues.

Explore the M+ Museum, renowned for its pre-eminent collection of visual art, design, architecture and moving images from Hong Kong, Greater China, Asia and beyond. See the exhibition Myths and Monsters: The Art of Fantasy in Asia that examines the role of fantasy in the evolution of Asian visual culture and its global impacts from the 19th to the 21st century.

After lunch, continue to one of Hong Kong’s leading contemporary art spaces that uncovers the multifaceted narratives of modern life and culture.

Return to the hotel in the mid-afternoon and enjoy the evening at leisure.

After a talk by John, the morning is at leisure to relax or explore the city at your own pace. Perhaps seek out the vibrant art scene in the well-established Central Art District or venture further afield to the burgeoning artistic hub of Wan Chai.

This afternoon, attend the VIP Preview of Art Basel, firmly established as Asia’s premier art fair, showcasing the latest developments in contemporary art from across Asia and some of the best from the West.

Appreciate a different side of Hong Kong today with a visit to the serene Chi Lin Nunnery and Garden. Founded in 1934 as a retreat for Buddhist nuns, the complex was rebuilt in 1998, and its main structure is currently the world’s largest handmade wooden building. Wander along the tranquil paths and admire the meticulously manicured landscapes and traditional Tang dynasty architecture.

The afternoon is at leisure to relax or to explore Hong Kong at your own pace. Tonight, celebrate the conclusion of the tour with a special farewell dinner with John and fellow travellers.
