Go behind the scenes at the Parliament House of Australia with a private tour of Parliament’s impressive art collection, and enjoy the colourful floral spectacle of Floriade as the city bursts into springtime bloom.

This tour is part of the World Art Tours program organised by the Art Gallery Society of NSW in partnership with Renaissance Tours.

Arrive in Canberra and make your own way to the Hyatt Hotel Canberra for check-in from 14:00,

Meet Alan and fellow travellers at the hotel at 14:30 and transfer to the National Portrait Gallery. At the Gallery, enjoy a private introduction to the Love Stories exhibition by one of the curators before an exclusive, curator-led tour. Featuring artworks from the National Portrait Gallery in London and pieces from the Canberra National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection, the exhibition tells the real-life love stories of famous couples from the 16th century to the present day. After viewing the exhibition, enjoy a special welcome dinner.

Transfer to the National Gallery of Australia for a special day-in-focus spent exploring the collections. Begin the morning with a talk by Alan, a former curator of the Gallery’s European and American Art collection and Senior Advisor for Special Exhibitions. Then, enjoy a curator-guided tour of the Gallery’s First Nations and Colonial Australian collection. Enjoy lunch at the Gallery, before continuing to the Modernism and European and American collections, for a tour by Alan focusing on some of the Gallery’s most significant international acquisitions. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy the evening at leisure.

This morning, travel to Canberra Glassworks for a private guided tour of a special exhibition featuring hand-made creations by local artisans. Continue to the lively Old Bus Depot Markets for time at leisure before transferring to the National Arboretum for lunch. Then enjoy a guided walk through the Forest Sculpture Gallery, which features panoramic views over the young forests of rare, endangered and symbolic trees from Australia and around the world.

Begin the morning with a talk by Alan, then transfer to the National Library of Australia for a behind the scenes tour of the Treasures Gallery. This gallery holds important maps, rare books and manuscripts that record interesting tales of Australian history.

Continue to Floriade, Canberra’s annual spring flower festival, for a guided tour of the displays, followed by some free time for lunch. In the afternoon, transfer to Parliament House and enjoy a private guided tour of the impressive art collection in the Parliament of Australia’s building, stepping behind the marble halls to uncover one of the country’s most significant, but lesser-known, art collections. This evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner in a nearby fine-dining restaurant.
