Landscapes and artists’ studios of the Mornington Peninsula

Appreciate the natural beauty and vibrant art scene of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula by visiting local artists’ studios and admiring the region’s characteristic landscapes.

Visit the spectacular Pt. Leo Estate on the less-explored western side of the peninsula and capture the property’s ever-evolving outdoor gallery overlooking the ocean. Spend time discovering the native Australian garden at the Royal Botanic Garden in Cranbourne with time to appreciate the artistic beauty of the native plants.

In addition to exploring studios of local artists, wander through the family-founded McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park, focusing on Australian modern art, and visit the impressive Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.

Monday 01 March 2021 / Arrive Melbourne – Mornington Peninsula

Arrive in Melbourne and make your way to The Langham Hotel for a welcome briefing and a morning tea with Jennifer and fellow travellers at 11:00. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your flights and other travel arrangements, including a private transfer to the hotel and a room category upgrade.

Travel to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Cranbourne and enjoy a light lunch on arrival. Wander through the grounds on a guided tour of the Australian Garden, where over 170,000 Australian native plants are featured in contemporary landscaped designs.

Continue to the hotel in Red Hill and enjoy dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.

Tue 02 Mar/ Mornington Peninsula

Begin this morning with a visit to the McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery, which houses an extensive collection of artwork and sculptures in an idyllic coastal bushland setting. Enjoy an introductory talk and guided tour of the gallery and surrounding sculpture park, before a picnic lunch in the grounds.

Later, transfer to a local artist’s studio for a visit of their workspace. Return to the hotel for some time at leisure, before dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Wed 03 Mar / Mornington Peninsula

This morning, visit Pt Leo Estate Sculpture Park, which features 135 acres of landscaped grounds and over 60 large-scale works by both Australian and international artists. Wander through the grounds on a guided tour and introduction to the park’s diverse collection.

After a light lunch at a nearby restaurant, continue to a local winery for a tasting. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon for some time at leisure and enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Thu 04 Mar / Mornington Peninsula

This morning travel to Sorrento to explore the charming heritage boutiques of this idyllic seaside town. Then visit Common Folk Studios, an independent collective of artists and makers, for a tour of the workshops and a talk by one of the artists in residence. After time at leisure for lunch, continue to the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery for a guided visit of the gallery, which houses an impressive collection of Australian artworks from the 18th century to the present.

Return to the hotel in the afternoon for some free time, then enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Fri 05 Mar / Depart Mornington Peninsula – Melbourne

Begin this morning with a visit to Studio & Co., a local artists’ cooperative, for a tour of the workshops by one of the artists in residence. Enjoy a special farewell lunch at Studio & Co. before transferring by coach to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport (transfer included in tour price) for flights departing after 17:30, or on to the Melbourne CBD.

Tour arrangements conclude upon arrival at the airport or The Langham Hotel. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your flights and other travel arrangements, including additional nights’ accommodation either before or after the tour and travel insurance.

Jennifer Keeler-Milne is a practising artist and experienced art educator. Her charcoal works are held in international and regional collections and have been included in the Dobell Prize for Drawing on nine occasions. Jennifer is the founder of the Dare to Draw studio school where she is known as a dynamic, passionate and generous teacher.  She formerly worked in Public Programmes at the Art Gallery of NSW.

She holds qualifications in art and education, post graduate qualifications in painting from the Victorian College of the Arts, and a Master of Art Administration. Her work was also featured in the 20 Years of the Dobell Prize for Drawing exhibition.

Arrive in Melbourne and make your way to The Langham Hotel for a welcome briefing and a morning tea with Jennifer and fellow travellers at 11:00.         Participation in tours

        Most of our tours require a MODERATE level of fitness. However, in certain destinations, or in certain seasons, or because of the nature of travel, certain tours will require an ABOVE MODERATE or CHALLENGING level of fitness. For the overall benefit of the group, at the time of booking we will require you to declare in writing that you are fit to participate in your chosen tour according to the level of fitness required for that tour. If you (or we) have any doubts about your level of fitness, you may be required to undergo a doctor’s appraisal. This would require your doctor to read the itinerary of your chosen tour, including the fitness level, and provide you (and us) with a written confirmation of your ability to participate.
        We reserve the right to refuse admission to the tour for any reason before commencement of the tour. Further, if after the tour has begun it becomes apparent that you are unfit or unsuitable to travel on the tour, we reserve the right to require you to withdraw from the tour at the earliest opportunity to do so. No refund will be provided.
        It is also a requirement that you do not cause any significant disruption to the tour or the tour group, and we may refuse admission on the tour, or require you to withdraw from the tour at any time if your participation causes significant disruption for other guests or the tour group or there is any safety issue as a result of your ongoing participation in the tour.

        Fitness to participate

        Moderate

        Tour members must be able to:

        • negotiate airports and railway stations without wheelchair assistance
        • use combined shower/bath facilities (it is impossible to guarantee walk-in shower facilities)
        • undertake walking tours of 1-2 hours duration, including using stairs, walking over cobblestones and other uneven surfaces
        • stand for long periods in museums and other sites
        • embark / disembark coaches, trains and other methods of transportation without assistance
        • handle your own luggage

        Above Moderate

        In addition to the above, tour members must also be able to:

        • undertake walking tours of 2-3 hours
        • climb staircases of 100 or more steps

        Challenging*

        In addition to the above, tour members must also be able to:

        • handle extremes of temperature (e.g. below 0 or above 35 degrees)
        • handle extremes of altitudes (e.g. 4000 metres and above)
