Sunday 18 April 2021 / Arrive Melbourne – Daylesford

Meet Brian and fellow travellers at The Langham Melbourne at 10:00am and transfer by coach to Castlemaine. On arrival enjoy a private tour of Castlemaine Art Gallery’s premier collection of Australian painting, ceramics, prints and sculpture.

Continue to Daylesford and check-in to the hotel. Attend a talk by Brian followed by dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.

Mon 19 Apr / Daylesford (Ballarat)

This morning travel by coach to the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Australia’s oldest and largest regional gallery. Established in 1884, both the building and the collection are listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and by the National Trust of Victoria. Enjoy a private guided tour of the impressive collection, which covers the history of Australian art, from the colonial to the contemporary.

After lunch, return to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon and evening at leisure.

Tue 20 Apr / Daylesford (Bendigo)

In the morning transfer to the Bendigo Art Gallery, another significant regional gallery. With a strong emphasis on 19th century British and European Continental painting, the gallery’s permanent collection is also home to works by Arthur Streeton, Charles Conder and Ernest Waterlow.

Enjoy a private curator-led tour of one of the gallery’s touring exhibitions and enjoy some free time to peruse the extensive collection of Australian and international artworks.

Then travel to the studio of leading Australian artist John Wolseley for an exclusive private tour.

Return to Daylesford in the late afternoon. Dinner this evening is in the hotel’s restaurant.

Depart Daylesford and drive past the picturesque Kinglake National Park to Coombe Estate. Nestled in the lush Yarra Valley region, Coombe Estate was once the home of famed Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba. Enjoy a private tour followed by lunch in the Estate’s gourmet restaurant, before continuing to the TarraWarra Museum of Art.

Enjoy a guided tour of the 2021 TarraWarra Biennial, curated by Nina Miall, and browse the museum’s collection of modern and contemporary Australian art. Continue to Melbourne in the late afternoon and enjoy an evening at leisure.

In the morning, travel to Geelong to visit the Geelong Gallery, one of the largest regional galleries in Australia. The gallery houses an extensive collection of Australian and European painting, sculpture, printmaking and decorative arts from the 18th century to the present.

In the afternoon, enjoy an exclusive private curator-led tour of the Australian Art collection of the National Gallery of Victoria at the Ian Potter Centre. Spanning the nation’s art history from the 19th century to the 1980s, the collection features works by iconic artists such as Tom Roberts and Sidney Nolan.

        Participation in tours

        Most of our tours require a MODERATE level of fitness. However, in certain destinations, or in certain seasons, or because of the nature of travel, certain tours will require an ABOVE MODERATE or CHALLENGING level of fitness. For the overall benefit of the group, at the time of booking we will require you to declare in writing that you are fit to participate in your chosen tour according to the level of fitness required for that tour. If you (or we) have any doubts about your level of fitness, you may be required to undergo a doctor’s appraisal. This would require your doctor to read the itinerary of your chosen tour, including the fitness level, and provide you (and us) with a written confirmation of your ability to participate.
        We reserve the right to refuse admission to the tour for any reason before commencement of the tour. Further, if after the tour has begun it becomes apparent that you are unfit or unsuitable to travel on the tour, we reserve the right to require you to withdraw from the tour at the earliest opportunity to do so. No refund will be provided.
        It is also a requirement that you do not cause any significant disruption to the tour or the tour group, and we may refuse admission on the tour, or require you to withdraw from the tour at any time if your participation causes significant disruption for other guests or the tour group or there is any safety issue as a result of your ongoing participation in the tour.

        Fitness to participate

        Moderate

        Tour members must be able to:

        • negotiate airports and railway stations without wheelchair assistance
        • use combined shower/bath facilities (it is impossible to guarantee walk-in shower facilities)
        • undertake walking tours of 1-2 hours duration, including using stairs, walking over cobblestones and other uneven surfaces
        • stand for long periods in museums and other sites
        • embark / disembark coaches, trains and other methods of transportation without assistance
        • handle your own luggage

        Above Moderate

        In addition to the above, tour members must also be able to:

        • undertake walking tours of 2-3 hours
        • climb staircases of 100 or more steps

        Challenging*

        In addition to the above, tour members must also be able to:

        • handle extremes of temperature (e.g. below 0 or above 35 degrees)
        • handle extremes of altitudes (e.g. 4000 metres and above)
