Fri 26 Mar / Hobart

After breakfast, travel by ferry to Mona – the Museum of Old and New Art – located on a private peninsula on the Derwent River, and part of the Moorilla Estate. Opened in January 2011, it is the largest privately-funded museum in the southern hemisphere, housing antiquities and modern and contemporary art from the collection of David Walsh.

Immerse yourself with a day-in-focus at the museum to explore the special exhibitions and enjoy an introduction to James Turrell’s immersive artworks. Lunch is at leisure, followed by a private guided tour and paired wine and cheese tasting at the Moorilla Winery. Dinner is at Faro, Mona’s fine dining restaurant, followed by an exclusive viewing of James Turrell’s Amarna sunset sequence.

(BD)

Sat 27 Mar / Hobart

Enjoy a morning at leisure to relax, or to explore Salamanca Market, Hobart’s famous Saturday market, at your own pace.

This afternoon, visit the Old Mercury Building for an exclusive private tour of the 1930s headquarters of The Mercury newspaper. Arts patron Penny Clive and her husband Bruce Neill purchased the former home of Tasmania’s state newspaper building in 2013 with a clear view of keeping its cultural significance intact through reinvention. It is now the centre of a new arts precinct and home to the Detached Artist Archive Hobart, providing opportunities and support to artists, curators and critics.

Enjoy a drink with Gitte and fellow art lovers at a local bar and take the opportunity to discuss the viewing of the vast and impressive Detached Collection. The remainder of the evening is at leisure.

(B)

Sun 28 Mar / Depart Hobart

Check out of the hotel in the morning and visit the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, which was established by The Royal Society of Tasmania in 1846. Then enjoy a special farewell lunch at a gourmet restaurant.

Tour arrangements conclude after lunch. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your flights and other travel arrangements, including any extra nights’ accommodation before or after the tour, or a private transfer to the airport.
