Itinerary

Arrive in Canberra and make your way to the hotel. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your flights and other travel arrangements, including a private transfer to the hotel, pre-tour accommodation and a room category upgrade.

At 18:00, join your tour leader Helen Pitt and fellow travellers for a welcome briefing at the hotel, followed by dinner.

This morning, visit the Old Parliament House and enjoy a private, guided tour to discover intriguing untold political stories that took place inside this building.

Continue to the National Library and enjoy a private, guided tour of the Treasures Gallery, featuring the largest collection about Australia and Australian people around the world. Highlights include a cedar bookcase carved by Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar and pages from William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice from the First Folio dating 1623.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy some time at leisure, before dinner at a local restaurant.

This morning, visit Parliament House and enjoy a special guided tour with exclusive access to restricted areas of this international award–winning building. Step beyond the storied marbled halls to uncover one of the country’s most significant, but lesser-known, art collections.

After some time for lunch at leisure, visit the National Portrait Gallery for a private introduction to the permanent art collection, featuring portraits across a wide range of mediums.

Continue to Mount Ainslie Lookout for panoramic views over Yarralumla and Lake Burley Griffin. Then, take a leisurely stroll through Floriade, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest flower show, featuring over one million blooms that transform Canberra’s lakeside into a living canvas.

In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Begin the day with a talk by Helen. Then, enjoy a walking tour around the High Court and the Sculpture Garden, which features almost 30 artistic productions by prominent sculptors such as James Turrell and Fujiko Nakaya.

After some time for lunch at leisure, delight in a private, guided tour of the Arthur Boyd: Tapestries exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia. Marvel at The Life of St. Francis series, the full cycle of twenty monumental tapestries created by Arthur Boyd and rarely shown together. This series is presented alongside preparatory sketches and drawings, offering insights on the artistic process of transposing designs from paper to textile.

This evening, celebrate the conclusion of the tour with a special farewell dinner with Helen and fellow travellers at one of Canberra’s fine restaurants.
