In their Australian debut, the ensemble will perform three concerts across the festival: Bach: Good Night World, a moving reflection on Bach’s music; Rossi’s Orfeo, the first-ever French opera, brought vividly to life; and Monteverdi’s Vespers, a masterpiece of sacred music.
Attend a performance by the renowned British string quartet, the Brodsky Quartet, with William Barton, and hear acclaimed British violinist Anthony Marwood perform with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Experience Simon Stone’s transformation of Chekhov’s play The Cherry Orchard, and hear internationally acclaimed British tenor Allan Clayton perform Schubert’s haunting Winterreise.

Enjoy an early dinner before walking to Elder Hall for a performance by the Brodsky Quartet and William Barton. This unique collaboration brings together the renowned Australian didgeridoo player, composer and vocalist and the award-winning British string quartet for a program that includes classical and contemporary classical works and Barton’s own compositions.

In the early afternoon, walk to the Festival Theatre for a performance of The Cherry Orchard. The last play written by the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, the plot revolves around an aristocratic Russian landowner who returns to her family estate before it is auctioned. Director Simon Stone, the creative force behind last year’s hallmark opera at the Adelaide Festival, Innocence, transforms this classical Russian masterpiece into a fast-paced drama set in modern South Korea.
This evening, attend a new music-theatre production titled Perle Noire, marking the Australian debut of American soprano Julia Bullock.

Begin this morning with a pre-performance talk by Mairi and Phillip. Then walk to Elder Hall for a lunchtime chamber orchestra performance by members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and leading British solo violinist Anthony Marwood.
Return to the hotel for the remainder of the afternoon at leisure, before dinner at the hotel.
Afterwards, continue to St Peter’s Cathedral for the second performance of Ensemble Pygmalion, performing Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610. Experience one of the greatest works of sacred choral music, combining traditional church music with the drama and virtuosity of early opera.

After breakfast, walk to the Art Gallery of South Australia for a private, guided tour of the Elder Wing of Australian Art, including four paintings by Fred William, one of Australia’s finest landscape painters and whose works accompany the music in tonight’s performance.
Enjoy the afternoon at leisure before an early dinner at a local restaurant.
This evening, attend a performance at the Adelaide Town Hall. Hear internationally-acclaimed British tenor Allan Clayton and Australian pianist Kate Golla in this unique presentation of Schubert’s last song cycle, Winterreise.

Following a pre-performance talk in the morning, transfer to Elder Hall for a recital in which violinist Anthony Marwood performs the Sonata for Solo Violin, and Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen presents Music for Children, both by Prokofiev. The program concludes with both artists performing Shostakovich’s Sonata for Violin and Piano.
Tonight, enjoy a special farewell dinner with Phillip, Mairi and fellow travellers before an Australian premiere performance at the Adelaide Town Hall of Luigi Rossi’s Orfeo, lost to the world for centuries, by Ensemble Pygmalion. Based on the Greek legend of Orpheus, this Baroque masterpiece explores the timeless struggle between love and death.
